Modification for CM & PM

As mentioned in ‘Procurement support’ services, provisions for proper preventive maintenance & condition monitoring are not provided in most of the equipment. We study the design of the equipment & add those provisions in the equipment under modification.

There are many provisions that we mostly find missing in many of the equipment. The few major provisions are listed here,

Few of the Provisions for Preventive Maintenance are,

1. Provision of Extension pipe for grease nipple for bearing
2. Provision of Grease Drain Plug with extension pipe for bearing
3. Provision for Acrylic window at NDE side of dc motor
4. Modification of motor terminal box for termination of thick aluminum cables – separate terminal box
5. Modification of dust filters for different applications
6. Modification of DC motor NDE End Shield for easy access to replace carbon brushes
7. Cooling Fan Modification in order to acquire sufficient heat dissipation & many such …..

Few of the Provisions for Condition Monitoring are,

1. Provision of female part for screwing vibration accelerometer on machines like motors/ pumps/ compressors/ gear boxes/ blowers/ turbines to make it possible to take vibration data from the same point with screw mount at every condition monitoring visit.
2. Provision for Oil Level Sensor (not indicator) for gear boxes
3. Provision of fitting of RTD’s/ BTD’s on bearings for temperature measurement for CM
4. Provision of oil level indicators
5. Provision of ammeters for monitoring excitation current of the alternator
6. Provision of RTD’s in motor windings for temperature monitoring & many such ….

Modification of Motor Terminal Box – The aluminum cable termination is small T.B. of the motor is always a tedious process. The thicker cables may get fail due to short circuit at lugs/ cables. The thicker cables cause cable strain on the motor that results in vibration. We have developed a separate Terminal Box, that will be kept beside the motor on stand. The aluminum supply cable is terminated in this spacious TB having dual-material bus bars. And short copper cables are connecting this external TB to motor TB.

Provision for Vibration Accelerometer Data Collection – The important rule of Condition monitoring is to collect data from the same point of the equipment with the same equipment every time. Also, screw mounting is always the best accelerometer mounting. When we make a provision of screwing the accelerometer, it is assured that the reading is taken from the same point & with Screw mounting.
