Condition Assessment of DG Set
It is an assessment of the condition of different parts of Engine as well of Alternator.
Engine
Condition Assessment of Engine is done with techniques Ultrasound Assessment & Thermography. Cylinder Liner – Piston rub can be detected at an early stage. The functioning of Heat Exchanger, Clogging of heat exchanger Tubes, can be detected with different techniques.
Alternator
The causes of functional failures of an Alternator are mainly electrical, maybe excitation system connection issues or RRA circuit Diode/fuse failure or Faulty AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator).
Other issues include Bearing Failures, Coupling Hub Failures, Rotor Stator Rub (Between Main stator & Main Rotor and between Exciter Field & Exciter Stator).
Condition Assessment of parts of Alternator is same as that of the motor. The CM techniques includes, Vibration Measurement, Ultrasound Measurement & Thermography.
Vibration Probing Study helps in assessing the condition of the rigidity of Foundation, Base Rail deformation, Fastening of engine & alternator with base rail.
